Lower Body Lift Surgery After Weight Loss

Massive weight loss can leave people feeling trapped in the sagging skin that surrounds their bottom, thighs, hips and tummy. Thankfully, a lower body lift can tighten all of these areas in a single surgery.

Dr Hunt will work with you, focusing on the areas of your body that are most troubling, whether it is the skin surrounding your arms, tummy or thighs. He will then put together a tailored weight loss surgery plan to achieve your aesthetic goals.

A lower body lift can be combined with additional surgeries such as an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), upper arm and/or breast lift. Dr Hunt can discuss these options with you during your personal consultation.

Body Lift FAQs

What is a Lower Body Lift?

Answer:

Though it’s not as well known as other procedures, a lower body lift is a more comprehensive surgery than a tummy tuck/ abdominoplasty or liposuction and is often chosen by people who have achieved significant weight loss.

A lower body lift is an effective procedure that removes and tightens excess skin formed after significant weight loss, pregnancy, and ageing. A Lower Body lift or LBL can be customised to include the buttocks, thighs and lower abdominal areas. Loose, hanging skin is excised, tucked and tightened and the buttocks lifted to create a new lower body shape.

A lower body lift is a highly individualised procedure and the outcome is based on your needs and goals. For example, people who have poor skin elasticity due to over-stretching will require a combination of liposuction and lower body lift procedures. In these cases, the skin is unable to naturally conform to your new body contours without intervention. Some patients will only need a single operation while others will be spread over two or more procedures. I encourage extensive consultations to decide on the right procedure for you.

What's involved in a Lower Body lift?

Answer:

Dr Hunt will perform your lower body at your chosen hospital, under a general anaesthetic administered by one of his hand-selected anaesthetists.

During the body lift procedure, Dr Hunt will make an incision around your waist, across your lower abdomen and down your thighs. He will trim any excess skin, tighten the muscles and remove all excess fat, before suturing your incisions closed with absorbable sutures.

In many cases, Dr Hunt will perform a tummy tuck/ abdominoplasty at the same time as your lower body lift.

When can I resume my normal activities?

Answer:

It will take around three weeks for you to fully recover from your body lift.

Your movements will be quite limited for the first 10 days after your surgery, and you’ll need to walk carefully. But as your skin gets used to its new position, you’ll regain your range of movement.

When will I see the end result?

Answer:

The effects of your lower body lift will be immediate, although it may take up to two months to appreciate the full benefits.

You will have scarring on your abdomen and thighs, and it will take at least a year for the scars to mature and fade so that they are pale and discreet. Dr Hunt will explain where your scars will be before your surgery. He will do his very best to ensure they are not visible in your swimsuit or underwear.

Is body lift for me?

Answer:

If you’ve lost a dramatic amount of weight and have been left with sagging skin in your lower body, you’re an ideal candidate for a lower body lift plastic surgery.
