Tummy liposuction

What is Abdominal or Tummy Liposuction?

Abdominal liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that can help you get rid of excess belly fat and improve your body contour. Lipo of the abdomen helps people who are within 30% of their ideal weight and have localised deposits of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise. These unsightly fat deposits can be the result of hormonal changes, genetics, or pregnancy.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat by suctioning it from underneath the skin through a cannula tube that includes a vacuum pump. It’s commonly performed in conjunction with other procedures such as tummy tuck surgery and body lift procedures to achieve your desired contour. In many cases, liposuction can be used on its own to provide dramatic results for stubborn pockets of fat around the stomach area.

What is the difference between abdominal lipo and tummy tuck surgery?

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the stomach area by tightening muscle and removing excess skin and fat. This can help create a smoother and more contoured abdominal profile by excising excess skin.

A tummy tuck offers more dramatic results than liposuction since it removes both fat and skin from the abdominal region. It may be an option for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight or who have a lot of loose skin due to pregnancy or ageing.

A Tummy tuck will leave a surgical incision scar across the lower part of your abdomen that extends from one hip bone to the other. This scar will fade over time but is regarded as permanent. Liposuction scars are usually very small (less than one centimetre) and can be hidden beneath clothing or within natural creases in the skin.

Benefits 2

Benefits of Tummy Lipo Surgery

A tummy lipo procedure has several benefits:

  • First of all, it provides immediate results that can last for years if you maintain a healthy weight
  • Additionally, it provides dramatic improvements in body shape and contour
  • The procedure also reduces fat pockets in the abdomen and back regions. It will flatten the abdomen and eliminate love handles making clothes fit you better
  • There are only very small scars left after this procedure

Are you a Suitable Candidate for Abdominal Lipo?

Abdomen liposuction is an excellent method for sculpting and shaping your body into a more desirable form. While it does not take off large amounts of weight nor will it improve cellulite, liposuction can be combined with other surgical procedures such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or breast reduction to give you a slimmer look that complements your natural shape.

The best candidates for liposuction of the stomach are men and women who are in relatively good shape, but who have isolated areas of excess fat deposits. It is not a weight loss surgery. It’s also important for patients to have good skin tone so that the skin can retract on the new contours created by liposuction. If you have loose or sagging skin, you may benefit more from a tummy tuck in addition to liposuction.

Liposuction is recommended for healthy, emotionally stable individuals committed to leading a healthy lifestyle including proper nutrition and exercise. Individuals with medical problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or poor circulation are not good candidates for this procedure.

Abdominal Liposuction Surgery Procedure

Your surgeon will first make a small incision near the navel to insert a cannula (small tube) attached to a vacuum device, which sucks out the excess fat from the abdomen. Excess fat is then suctioned off using a syringe or surgical vacuum. Multiple small incisions may be made around the navel area so that more fat can be removed. These incisions are usually 3mm in length and do not require any stitches to close.

Tummy liposuction can be done as a day surgery. The procedure is usually done under general anaesthesia depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the patient’s preference. The procedure typically takes 1- 3 hours, but may take longer if combined with other procedures. Depending on how much fat is removed, the duration may be longer or shorter.

Patients can return home on the same day after the surgery, or they may stay overnight. To reduce recovery time, tummy liposuction patients need to wear compression garments after surgery to help with swelling and fluid absorption. Tummy Lipo Patients may experience bruising and swelling for up to a month following the surgery.

Most patients can return to work within two weeks of having tummy liposuction. Patients should wait at least six weeks before engaging in strenuous activities such as exercising or lifting heavy objects to allow for proper healing of the tissue. Results seen immediately following procedure, so the satisfaction rate is high.

Tummy Lipo Recovery and Aftercare

When you wake up after surgery, you may have a temporary tube for drainage placed in your abdomen. It is important to leave this tube in until it is removed by your surgeon the day after surgery. As mentioned before, you will have compression garments to wear for 3 weeks following surgery. These garments help with swelling and support the skin during healing.

Get plenty of rest until you feel well enough to resume your normal activities. Follow your surgeon’s instructions on how to care for the surgical area. Keep the surgical areas clean and dry. Take all medications as directed.

Apply cold packs to the surgical area (or take cool baths) on the first two days after surgery to reduce swelling. Do not take aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), vitamins, or herbal medications that might increase bleeding. Start walking around as soon as possible after surgery. This will help improve blood circulation and prevent blood clots from forming in your legs.

If you have a more physically demanding job, plan to be off work for 2 weeks. You should plan on light activity for the first few weeks following surgery.
