Why Consider Rhinoplasty with Dr Jeremy Hunt?

RHINOPLASTY SYDNEY

Why Consider Rhinoplasty with Dr Jeremy Hunt?

What Is a Rhinoplasty?

Dr Jeremy Hunt understands that nothing can determine your appearance quite like your nose. It’s the central feature of your face – literally – and deciding to have a nose job by changing its shape, size or position can have a huge impact on your looks.

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape the nose. Rhinoplasty, also called a nose job, can be performed to alter the look of your nose and the face. The surgery works by moving the cartilage, bones and muscles of the nose to help create a the patients desired result or addresses issues such as bulbous tip or saddleback. Rhinoplasty can also be functional or reconstructive, it can help correct nasal conditions following trauma or airway breathing difficulties and it can be performed on both men and women. In many cases, rhinoplasty is quite subtle. It can also be used to restore some of the normal function of the nose by correcting breathing problems caused by blockages, including sleep apnoea or snoring.

Dr Jeremy Hunt’s may help patiets reduce or increase their nose’s size, change its shape, narrow it or widen it, or change its angle. As a plastic surgeon with interest in Craniofacial Surgery, Dr Jeremy Hunt sees patients in Sydney and Wollongong.

Rhinoplasty Types

Before planning a rhinoplasty, it’s important to understand your options. Here are some of the most common types of rhinoplasty:

  • Closed rhinoplasty is performed using a technique to make a discreet, small incision on the inside of the nose. This is common when fixing a deviated septum or when correcting simple nose tip deformities such as a bulbous tip or an asymmetrical nose
  • Open rhinoplasty is performed through an incision made on the skin on the base of the nose. This is ideal when addressing large nasal deformities present since birth or caused by trauma to the nose. It is also used to access the nasal septum that, when deviated, can cause significant breathing problems or distort the nose shape
  • Revision rhinoplasty is for people who had a rhinoplasty before and now are just touching up or changing the shape of the nose as they are not pleased with the results achieved with the initial procedure
  • Reconstructive rhinoplasty uses tissue grafts of cartilage to rebuild or reconstruct a nose that has been damaged by trauma, or often previous surgery. Rhinoplasty involves altering the internal cartilage and bone of the nose. Dr Hunt can take out cartilage from the bone of the nose or he can also add to the nose cartilage by taking some from the ear

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to address the aspect of the nose, making it more proportionate with the rest of the facial features. The procedure is performed for both aesthetic and functional purposes. Dr Hunt uses different techniques that deliver results while also aiming to prevent potential post-operative complications.

The procedure can take up to two hours or more, depending on the complexity of each case. General anaesthesia is preferred for the comfort of the patient.

There are different techniques that can be used for rhinoplasty, but usually, Dr Hunt chooses open nose surgery. This means that an incision is performed between the nostrils, and additional incisions are made on the inside of the nose. Next, Dr Hunt separates the bones and the cartilages, and the septum is adjusted and straightened.

Recovery after Rhinoplasty

The recovery period after a rhinoplasty surgery is highly dependent on the complexity of the procedure and whether the procedure was performed alone or in combination with other interventions such as blepharoplasty or a facelift, for example. The area is usually swollen and bruised after the intervention.

It is best to avoid strenuous physical activities during the first two weeks after a nose job and returning to the gym is only possible after four to six weeks. Here are more recommendations for the recovery period after a rhinoplasty surgery:

  • Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol for at least two weeks
  • Avoid steam and heat getting directly in your face
  • Sleep on your back
  • Avoid rubbing the nose
  • Avoid bending your head forward

To avoid risks and complications that could occur during the recovery period make sure to follow Dr Hunt’s indications.

Rhinoplasty FAQs?

What's involved in Rhinoplasty surgery?

Answer:

Dr Hunt performs all Rhinoplasty surgery under a general anesthetic, administered by one of his carefully selected anesthetists in the hospital of your choice.

Either an open or closed surgical technique will be used, depending on the extent of your Rhino surgery. However both techniques leave minimal to no scarring on the outside of the nose, as all incisions are made from the inside.

During your surgery, Dr Hunt will gently and carefully separate the skin of your nose from the bone and cartilage, before sculpting it to your desired size and shape.

When your surgery is finished, a splint will be placed over the bridge of your nose. If your septum was adjusted (the cartilage between your nostrils), Dr Hunt will also pack inside your nose.

The whole procedure generally takes around two hours.

When can I resume my normal activities?

Answer:

As the swelling and bruising around your eyes will actually increase at first, peaking around three days after surgery, you plan on minimal activity during this time. After that time, you can resume your normal activities as soon as you feel comfortable.

The swelling and bruising will then begin to subside, disappearing within around two weeks. Some subtle swelling will linger for several months, however only you and Dr Hunt need be aware of it.

When will I see the final Rhinoplasty results?

Answer:

While it will take a number of months for the skin of your nose to fully ‘re-drape’ and to see the absolute final result, you may see changes within a matter of weeks.

What is the difference between a Rhinoplasty and a Tip Rhinoplasty?

Answer:

A rhinoplasty involves surgical treatment to the nasal bones and cartilage of the nose. The bones make up the upper part of the nose between the eyes, and the cartilage is in two sections – the middle vault and the tip cartilage.

A tip rhinoplasty only addresses the tip cartilages and is therefore limited in its power to change the size and shape of the nose. This type of rhinoplasty is used to alter the shape, angle and definition of the tip and is only applicable in a limited number of cases (like a bulbous nose tip)

How long does Rhinoplasty Recovery take?

Answer:

After rhinoplasty it’s common to experience swelling and bruising around the eyes. This can take up to two weeks to fade, although some very subtle swelling may remain for up to several months. Plan to spend the first three days following surgery at home. Resting and limiting movement will help counter any discomfort and ensure the healing process gets off to a good start. To ensure a complete recovery, don’t aim to return to week for two weeks post-surgery.
